YARNIES BY MIKEY
Mikey Anderson is the Founder of Yarnies By Mikey and a queer artist and art therapist from the Back of the Yards in Chicago. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA in fine art and an MA in Art Therapy and Counseling. His art practice is deeply informed by his community-driven art therapy work, which blends fiber crafts, queer theory, and activism.
Mikey’s artworks range from embroideries and quilts to comics and a handmade plush toy line called "Yarnies." These soft, cuddly creations invite participation, encouraging people to come close where underlying messages about Queer advocacy become clear. Through his art and therapy sessions, the community-based projects he facilitates, and the Yarnies he creates, Mikey is committed to expanding Queer representation and advocating for Queer communities.
