Play Out Apparel is a gender-equal clothing brand founded by Abby Sugar, committed to positively impacting queer visibility and representation. The brand's inclusive nature extends to all genders, races, ages, sexualities, sizes, and abilities, with 20% of net profits donated to LGBTQ+ and BLM organizations.
In response to the lack of gender-inclusive apparel in the market, Play Out Apparel's mission is to create a community where queer, gender non-conforming, and transgender individuals can see themselves joyously reflected in clothing and brands. Play Out Apparel achieves this by removing gender categories on their site, offering bottoms in "flat front" or "pouch front" options, and producing unisex tops. Additionally, the brand strives to reduce their carbon footprint by using recycled materials and compostable bags, manufacturing its products in a Mexico-based, woman-owned factory that employs and pays a living wage to LGBTQ+ workers and workers over 50.
